Here is a way to create a tool to easily empty the directory where Windows and applications store their temporary files:
  • Create a new folder in C:\Program Files and name it, say, DeleteTempFolder.
  • Download the file logtext.exe and save it in this directory (C:\Program Files\DeleteTempFolder).
  • Download the file Datei DeleteTempFolder.zip and extract its contents in the same folder (C:\Program Files\DeleteTempFolder).
  • Alternatively, you can download the unzipped files DeleteTempFolder.cmd and DeleteTempFolderNoLog.cmd separately and save them at C:\Program Files\DeleteTempFolder.

  • The folder should now look the following (although the file DeleteTempFolder.zip might of course not be there if you downloaded the batch files separately):
  • Now drag the file DeleteTempFolder.cmd to your desktop by using the right mouse button and select "Create shortcut here" in the popup menu.
  • Provide an appropriate name for the new shortcut (what do you think of DeleteTemp?) and choose a nice icon (right mouse button and Properties).
  • Now you can click on the icon any time you want to delete your temporary directory.
  • A log file that gives you information on what the script has deleted is automatically created. You'll find it in the same folder (in our example C:\Program Files\DeleteTempFolder).
An explanation of how the batch files work and how logtext is used to provide the log file(s) can be found here
